The angular distribution of #betta#-rays produced by the inelastic scattering of 14 MeV neutrons in large samples of concrete
Description
The angular distribution of #betta#-rays produced after the inelastic scattering of 14 MeV neutrons in various thickness of concrete have been measured. Concrete is a common shielding material and knowledge of the effect of multiple scattering is important. The neutrons were produced using the T(d,n)4He reaction and the #betta#-ray signals gated using a time of flight technique. The results show the #betta#-ray angular distributions for various concrete thickness. It is apparent that the normal assumption of isotropic scattering is invalid. (author)
