Horizontal distribution of natural radionuclides (Pb-210, Po-210, Ra-226, Th-232, K-40) and of toxic heavy metals (Pb, Co, Ni) in soil samples in the surroundings of a coal-fired power plant

The spatial distribution of the specific activities of the above radionuclides in the soil within 5 km of the plant as well as the ratios Pb-210/Ra-226 and Po-210/Ra-226 did not reveal any noticeable effects on the natural concentrations of these radionuclides in the soils. The specific activities of the radionuclides in the fly ash of the plant are obviously too small to disturb the natural distribution pattern significantly. A similar behaviour was observed for the concentrations of the heavy metals in the soils around the plant, which were also within the same range of values as observed for largely unpolluted soils. Increased metal concentrations in the soils downwind of the stack of the power plant were not observable. The concentrations of these metals in the fly ash were not sufficiently high to significantly change the local distribution of the elements in the soils in the surroundings of the plant. (orig./HP)

Aus dem lokalen Verteilungsmuster der spezifischen Aktivitaeten der obigen Radionuklide in den Boeden aus der Umgebung des Kohlekraftwerkes sowie aus den Nuklidverhaeltnissen Pb-210/Ra-226 und Po-210/Ra-226 im Boden und in der Flugasche lassen sich keine Auswirkungen der Kraftwerksemissionen auf die natuerlichen Nuklidkonzentrationen in den dortigen Boeden erkennen. Die gefundenen spezifischen Aktivitaeten der Radionuklide in der Flugasche des Kraftwerkes sind offensichtlich zu gering, um eine ueber den natuerlichen Schwankungsbereich dieser Nuklide im Boden hinausgehende Stoerung zu bewirken. Aehnliches gilt fuer die Schwermetallgehalte in den Boeden um das Kraftwerk, die innerhalb des gleichen Bereichs lagern, wie er auch in anderen weitgehend unbelasteten Boeden beobachtet wird. Erhoehte Schwermetallkonzentrationen in der Hauptwindrichtung vom Kamin der Anlage sind nicht feststellbar. Offensichtlich sind die Pb-, Co- und Ni-Gehalte in der Flugasche zu gering, um das natuerliche Verteilungsmuster in den dortigen Boeden wesentlich zu veraendern. (orig./HP)Additional details
