First oxidation stages of zircaloy-4: use of synchrotron radiation for crystallographic characterization of oxide thin films

Description

The synchrotron radiation has been used here to characterize the crystal structure of thin films of zircon formed on sheet in zircaloy-4. The obtained results inform on the first stages of the oxide growth, at moments where the oxidation kinetics is very fast. In fact, quadratic zircon is formed at the beginning of the oxidation and is present until the oxide-water interface. It is not oriented in an isotropic way
