Isobar discrimination using the negative ion instability of hydrogen halides

  • 1. Toronto Univ., Ontario (Canada). IsoTrace Lab.

Description

A detection limit of < 1.3x10-14 for the production and extraction of H 35Cl- relative to 35Cl- has been achieved. This can make possible the detection of 35S (84.3 d) using the stable HS- (EA = 2.3 eV) molecular ion and the corresponding instability of HCl-. In light of this very preliminary detection limit, the implications of a similar separation for the isobaric pair 79Br-79Se (6.5x10-4a) are discussed. (orig.)
