Deformation attenuation of ultrasonic shear waves in aluminum

  • 1. Agricultural Univ. of Norway, Aas-NLH

Description

The deformation contribution to the electronic attenuation of ultrasonic shear waves in aluminum is measured to be of the same order of magnitude as for longitudinal waves. This real metal effect is found highly anisotropic, depending both on the direction q/q and the polarization epsilon of the ultrasound. An anisotropic deformation parameter K/sub y/ is therefore suggested as being large whenever epsilon is close to the edge WK of the Fermi surface. (auth)
