Heavy-ion booster linac for a tandem accelerator

  • 1. Tsukuba Univ., Sakura, Ibaraki (Japan). Inst. of Physics

Description

In order to increase the energy of heavy ions, a small-scale post accelerator has been developed for the tandem accelerator at the University of Tsukuba. The accelerator is a rf linear accelerator of an interdigital-H type, and generates the voltage as high as 2 MV with a rf power of 10 kW. A semi-empirical method is discussed on the design of the drift tube. With this booster linac, the energy of 35Cl(15+) ions has been increased from 110 to 136 MeV. The investigations of nuclear structures or reactions has also been extended. (author)
