Hydridation of Zr-1%Ni alloy during anodic polarization in hydrochloric acid
Description
To estimate alloying elements effect on forming hydrogen general amount as well as on its distribution between solid and gas phases during corrosion with controlled polarization zirconium-nickel alloy was investigated. Zirconium alloying with nickel is shown to change considerably both hydrogen sum amount, that is evoluted into a gas phase and absorbed by metal matrix, and their ratio during anodic electrostatic polarization in 11 M HCl (in the mode of negative difference effect). Thus, Zr-1%Ni alloy displays relatively low tendency to anodic hydridation, but is subjected to intensive cathodic hydridation not typical for nonalloyed zirconium and a series of other zirconium alloys. Atypically high hydridation of nickel doped zirconium alloys, probably, testifies to the fact that in high parameters water usual cathodic hydridation of zirconium alloys may be combined with the described hydridation mechanism during anodic activation
