Simulation of stratospheric balloon environment

Description

The behavior of materials used for the construction of stratospheric balloons is studied at DERTS by means of irradiations performed in reals time and simulating the exact flight environment. Two chambers were designed in the laboratory and are described together with the experimental procedure. In order to reduce cost and save time, it is worth accelerating the simulation when only a preliminary evaluation of the sample's properties is required. For this reason, a systematic study was undertaken in order to evaluate the respective effects of different parameters on the material degradation. The results of this study are given

Abstract (French)

Le comportement des materiaux constituant les ballons stratospheriques est etudie au DERTS par irradiation en temps reel dans un environnement identique a celui rencontre au cours du vol. Deux enceintes concues dans ce but sont decrites ainsi que la procedure utilisee. Pour des raisons de gain de temps et d'economie, il est interessant d'accelerer cette simulation, au moins pour une premiere selection des materiaux. A cet effet une etude a ete entreprise pour evaluer la part des differents parametres intervenant dans le vieillissement des materiaux. Les resultats de cette etude sont rapportes
