Nuclein-protein relation and cell composition in rat's testes after gamma irradiation with 1.0 Gy dose of a different dose rate

  • 1. Akadehmiya Navuk Belarusi, Minsk (Belarus). Inst. Radyyabiyalogii

Description

The total number of germ cells and their particular types, the content of the nucleic acids and crude protein were studied in rat's testes one day after acute (dose rate 54.0 mGy/min) and long-term continuous gamma irradiation (dose rate 18.0 and 57.6 mGy/day) at 1.0 Gy total dose. No changes in the parameters studied were observed at the initial period after 1.0 Gy irradiation. An increase in the DNA content and a decrease in acid-soluble fraction of the nucleic acids against a background of reduction in the number of some types of spermatogenic cells (mainly spermatogonia) were observed with an increase in a dose rate. At the same time these changes in the indices were not observed at the minimum dose rate irradiation. (authors) 1 fig., 1 tab., 16 refs
