Performance of a PADC [poly-allyl diglycol carbonate] radon dosemeter
Description
The National Radiological Protection Board radon personal dosemeter, based on the diffusion cup principle and using poly-allyl diglycol carbonate (PADC or CR-39), is designed for use in mines, where high relative humidities are common. A study has been made of the effects of high humidity and other factors on the diffusion rate, and hence on the response, of the dosemeter. A mathematical model of the diffusion process has been employed to support laboratory simulations of conditions in mines, and other investigations. While large reductions in dosemeter response may be achieved artificially, it appears that in practical cases reasonable confidence can be placed in measurements made with this dosemeter. (author)
