Simplified absorbed fraction method for radiation dose calculations in routine clinical situations

Description

The absorbed fraction (AF) method for the calculation of the radiation dose to a patient from the internally administered radionuclides, in spite of its conceptual simplicity and soundness, does not provide the desired rapidity and simplicity in routine clinical situations. The authors have developed an approximation which essentially maintains the conceptual soundness of the AF method and provides the desired simplicity and rapidity in routine clinical situations. The errors in calculations are, in general, less than 5%. These are systematic and predictable and can therefore be further reduced for a given radionuclide for better accuracy, if so desired.
