X-ray emission spectra of zirconium-based alloys, their hydrides and related compounds

  • 1. National Chemical Lab. for Industry, Yatabe, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

L emission spectra from zirconium-based alloys and their hydrides are measured with an X-ray microanalysis apparatus and a two-crystal X-ray spectrometer. The low-lying states induced by the bonding between zirconium and hydrogen are observed for ZrH2 and also for ZrNi hydride. In the case of the other alloy hydrides such as ZrMn2Hsub(x) and ZrCr2Hsub(x) no profile changes on hydriding are observed in their Lν spectra. The interactions between zirconium and hydrogen are weakened by alloying zirconium with other metals and the states of hydrogen in these alloys are somewhat different from the above-mentioned states in ZrH2 or ZrNi hydride.
