Space radiation dosimetry-ground based verification of the MATROSHKA facility

Description
In the framework of the MATROSHKA experiment all the proposing investigators worked together - applying different passive and active radiation detector systems - for the joint evaluation of skin and organ dose using a anthropomorphic head/torso phantom onboard the International Space Station. The first aim of the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) Research Project is the joint irradiation of TL detectors simulating the heavy ion space radiation environment using HIMAC for TL-efficiency comparison. The second aim is the irradiation of the ground based model (phantom head) of the MATROSHKA facility equipped with passive (TLDs and Nuclear Track Etch detectors (CR-39)) as well as active radiation detectors (Silicon Scintillator Devices (SSDs)). This allows the comparison of the various detector systems directly measuring at the same time inside the phantom head. All the data will be compared with simulations applying the GEANT4 and PHITS Monte Carlo codes. (author)
