Commissioning and Optimization of Neutron Scattering Instruments for Quantum Materials Research

Description

Strengthening the HANARO neutron science research facility's competitiveness and promoting neutron science are necessary due to the long HANARO reactor shutdown. The aim of this project is to the commissioning and optimization of Bio-REF, DC-TOF, C-TAS, and other neutron scattering instruments, and to conduct collaborative neutron science research between institutions. Bio-REF is ready for stable operation upon the confirmation of the excellent neutron flux and reflectivity measurement results comparable to foreign reflectometers. DC-TOF improved measurement and vacuum system, device control software and data analysis software. Continuous operation and user support are expected. G-TS optimized the polarization system and improved neutron beam alignment and flux. SPICE-based device control software facilitated measurement of magnetic sample analysis. C-TAS developed new components, upgraded the performance, and reorganized the overall optical system. The instrument is ready for user experiments after performance verification. The collaborative soft/bio materials research using x-ray and neutron beam profoundly contributed to the identification of biological phenomena and diseases. Crystal synthesis laboratory synthesized single crystals of quantum materials. After restarting HANARO reactor, the recovery of neutron facility users and research experiments are anticipated
