The solvent extraction behavior of technetium. Pt. 2
Description
The solvent extraction of heptavalent technetium from aqueous hydrochloric acid by tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) has been studied over a wide range of TBP and HCl concentrations at 25, 40, and 600C. The extraction was found to proceed according to the reaction 3 TBP + H+ + TcO-4 reversible [HTcO4 x 3 TBP]. A discussion of possible reaction mechanisms is presented, along with values of Δ G, Δ H, Δ S, and the equilibrium constant for the extraction reaction. The solvent extraction behavior of KTcO4 in the HCl-TBP system is compared and contrasted with the behavior in the HNO3-TBP system. (orig.)
