Advisory Committee on The Safety of Nuclear Installations (ACSNI)
Description
The major issues covered by the Advisory Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (ACSNI) are reviewed. These include the nuclear emergency arrangements undertaken by Government departments following Chernobyl, the siting of nuclear power stations and the response to the Health and Safety Executive's response to the Tolerability of Risk from Nuclear Power Stations. Some of the Committee's work is not complete and will continue into 1989. The report concludes by setting out some of the topics which ACSNI proposes to consider and discuss in the future, including the continued examination of emergency arrangements and procedures in the UK in the event of a nuclear accident. Other matters for consideration will include the proposal for an Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor dry fuel buffer store at Heysham, nuclear safety research, decommissioning policy and the public perception of nuclear safety. In addition ACSNI will consider reports from its study groups, which have looked at Human Factors (operator training and the use of simulators) the integrity of the Magnox reactors and the Accumulation of Radioactive Wastes.
