Regulatory Actions Taken after Fukushima
Description
Mexican nuclear power plant: • Laguna Verde site is located far from the main earthquake epicenters in Mexico (Atlantic Coast) and with no important seismic events. • Safe Shutdown Earthquake (SSE) is 0.26g of Peak Ground Acceleration. The period of return is 2000 years. • The maximum credible earthquake predicted for the area has a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter Scale and could produce a tsunami of magnitude 1. Such a tsunami could cause an elevation of the sea level at the site in the order of 0.50 to 0.75m. • Laguna Verde site can be subjected to Hurricanes (Atlantic and Caribbean Sea). This event can be critical for Station Blackout. • Wind velocity Reactor Building 275 kph (Scale 5 Saffir-Simpson, > 249 kph).
