Effects of new safety related provisions on the probabilistic assessment of core melt accidents and source terms

  • 1. ENEA, Rome (Italy)

Description

In spite of the present stagnant situation of the Italian nuclear program, the Probabilistic Safety Study applications are continuing to be considered as matter for research. Under this point of view the studies for Caorso NPP, described in the following paragraphs, represent a sound example of the way the probabilistic approach was used in Italy. They also provide a useful overview of the technical bases which enabled the Italian competent organizations. The Electricity Board (ENEL) and the Licensing Authority (ENEA/DISP), to make their own decisions on the adoption of provisions for improving the plant safety
