Description

Electrical resistance and DTA measurements on single crystals of Fe3O4, in which the oxygen is partially replaced by the stable isotope 18O, show a positive isotope shift in the Verwey transition temperature Tsub(V) of deltaTsub(V) (6.1 +- 0.05) K for the 18O concentration of 43%. This result can be qualitatively explained by a theory which is based on the concept of the condensation of a coupled charge density-phonon mode at Tsub(V) and takes into account both the electron-phonon and the electron-electron interactions.
