Measurement of the Pb-210 content of commercially available lead samples
Description
The method for the determination of the specific activity of a reference material ''210Pb in lead'' is described, and it is shown how the specific activity of other samples is obtained by relative measurements. Proportional counters for the measurement of β radiation emitted in the decay of 210Pb and its daughters and Ge spectrometers for the measurement of photons (46.5 keV) are used. The lower limit of detection is of the order of 3 mBq g-1 (1 day measurement time) in the beta measurements and about 40 mBq g-1 in photon spectrometry (10 days measuring time). (orig./HP)

Das Verfahren zur Bestimmung der spezifischen Aktivitaet eines Referenzmaterials ''210Pb in Blei'' wird beschrieben. Es wird gezeigt, wie die spezifische Aktivitaet anderer Bleisorten durch Relativmessungen erhalten wird. Dabei werden Proportionalzaehler fuer die Messung der beim Zerfall von 210Pb und seiner Tochterprodukte emittierten β-Strahlung als auch Ge-Spektrometer fuer die Messung der Photonenstrahlung (46,5 keV) verwendet. Die Nachweisgrenze bei der Betazaehlung liegt bei 3 mBq g-1 (1 Tag Messzeit), bei der Photonenspektrometrie bei 40 mBq g-1 (10 Tage Messzeit). (orig./HP)
