Elastic scattering of α particles from 16O near the Coulomb barrier
Description
16O(α,α)16O cross section angular distributions have been measured at energies near the Coulomb barrier, i.e. from 3.5 MeV to 4.9 MeV in steps of 100 keV. Scattering angles ranged from 520 to 1660 in steps of 2.50. The accuracy of the data exceeds +-3% for most points. A phase shift and optical model analysis has been performed. The existence of broad resonances was confirmed implying 20Ne to be strongly clustered into 16O+α. The author attempts to identify the first five members of the O4+ rotational band in 20Ne. (Auth.)
