Study of angular fluxes from monoenergetic electron beams

  • 1. Universidad del Pais Vasco. Bilbao (Spain)

Description

Knowledge of electrons movement in matter is of crucial importance in a lot of techniques that employ beams of electrons to analyse different properties of matter. This movement can be studied in detail through the use of the Monte Carlo method. This work presents an analogue code employed in the simulation of different foil irradiation by monoenergetic electrons beams. The simulation in made in detail because the different interaction processes are described in chronological succession. With this code not only transmission and backscattering coefficients have been derived but the angular flux of electrons as well. Knowledge of these distribution is of great interest both for its practical application and from the theoretical point of view also, especially to understand further the transport of electrons through matter. Besides this, the study of these angular distributions lets find theoretical validity to the use of the P1 approximation, that establishes a linearly anisotropic angular flux, in the treatment of electrons movement through the linear transport equation that was performed in previous works, fact that was also observed in experimental measurements.
