The production of nickel aluminide (NiAl) by various routes
Description
Recent advances in high energy gas atomisation equipment has allowed the production of fine, clean powders of some intermetallic compounds with high melting points. In this paper some preliminary experiments on the production of the intermetallic NiAl are presented and their consolidation behaviour by HIP was assessed. Two other techniques have been employed to produce NiAl powders and compacts, namely mechanical alloying of elemental powders and in-situ reactive sintering using HIP, (RHIP). The results from the three routes were compared. (orig.)
