Residence time distribution study in an oxidation reactor

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India). Isotope Div.

Description

A series of radiotracer experiments was carried out to study the residence time distribution of the liquid phase reactants in an oxidation reactor in pure terephthalic production plant. The study revealed that the reactor behaves as a well mixed reactor with recirculation created because of impellers present in the reactor. Amount of recirculation changed with the prolonged use of the reactor and increased drastically when the reactor was washed during shutdown. (author). 3 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab
