Nitrogen in alloyed steels

Description

Modern steel processing technologies often include the use of nitrogen addition as a very effective alloying element (1,2,3). Since few years in Materials Science Department of Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy have been carried out investigations aiming to determine the influence of nitrogen on the structure and physical and mechanical properties of alloyed stainless steels. Besides, technologies for manufacturing of the products from steel with high nitrogen content have been developed. Also efforts to broaden applications range for these steels have been made. Results of investigation aimed to determine the effect of nitrogen content on the structure and mechanical properties of Cr-Mn austenitic steels with addition of molybdenum or nickel also have been presented in the paper.
