Description
A number of chromium bearing iron oxides having the corundum structure with varying Cr and Fe contents have been synthesized. These were characterised by XRD, chemical analysis and Moessbauer spectroscopy, and will be used for studying their dissolution behaviour in various chemical decontaminant formulations. This work is relevant to the coolant chemistry conditions (dissolved oxygen in the range 200-300 ppb) conducive to the formation of corundum type oxides of the type FexCr2-xO3 which form the outer layer of the adherent deposits on boiling water reactor (BWR) system surfaces.
