Rindler noise in the flat spacetime with a boundary

Description

The vacuum noise of a quantum field as viewed by a uniformly accelerated observer is studied in the flat spacetime with a static boundary. It is shown that the noise consists of 2 terms: one is the ordinary thermal term that satisfies the KMS condition, and the other is a new term that represents the boundary effect. The latter has some special properties, which can be interpreted as the consequence of a specific type of interference among various modes of the field. The possibility of detecting the boundary effect is considered. It is also shown that the thermal property is recovered as the observer moves away from the boundary. (author). 11 refs.; 5 figs
