Spin polarized fusion
Description
The recent interest in using polarized fuels in controlled fusion is reviewed. The salient consequences of spin polarized fusion are the possibility of increased reactivity and control of the direction of the fusion products. Possible depolarization mechanisms in plasma devices are examined and shown to be small compared to the fusion burn rate. The several possible techniques for development of large polarized sources capable of producing polarized atoms at a rate greater than 1020 sec-1 are examined. (author)
