Effect of fertilizer application and deep rooting measures on the absorption of 137Cs by rice

Description
Effects of the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and deep rooting on reducing the absorption of 137Cs by rice (especially in the seed) were estimated using pot and plot experiment. The results show that the available 137Cs in soil decreased significantly by applying potassium fertilizer, which led to the lower accumulation of 137Cs in rice stem and the most effective measure was to apply potassium sulphate of 922.5 kg/ha. An unsteady effect with phosphate fertilizer existed. When P application was in a lower amount, the accumulation of 137Cs in rice decreased. But following the increase of P application, the absorption of 137Cs was promoted. The 137Cs accumulation in rice decreased significantly by deep rooting
