Description

The clarification of mechanical behavior of large superconducting magnets is of great technical importance in order to assess their reliability and safety. This is because the quenching of the conductor is induced by the heat generation due to the mechanical motion of wires and debonding of the wire and epoxy resin. To evaluate the minimum energy of quenching for the point disturbances, experimental study was conducted on a small resin-impregnated coil with use of bulk heating technique by pulsed electron beam irradiation as a function of magnetic fields and the test coil currents. An amount of energy deposition into the coil was developed using a CTA (cellulose triacetate) dose meter
