Crack tip slip systems in BCC metals
Description
When plastic deformation occurs ahead of a crack tip under an applied stress, it is necessary to examine the material parameters that are responsible for determining the slip systems that are activated. In this study, the choice of slip systems at the tips of propagating cracks has been studied in bcc molybdenum during in situ TEM tensile deformation. The slip systems are identified experimentally from the Burgers vectors of the dislocations and the observed slip planes. These slip systems are analyzed in terms of the resolved shear stress, which is modified by the presence of the crack
