Indications for computerized tomography examination

The possibilities are discussed of the use of computerized tomography for the diagnosis of disorders in the region of the head (brain, orbita, face and pharynx), of the neck, chest (mediastinum, veins, heart, chest wall, pleura), abdomen (liver, bile-ducts, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, adrenals, abdominal and retroperitoneal veins, retroperitoneal lymphatic nodules, tumors and hemorrhages, intraperitoneal processes), organs in the pelvic region and the skeleton (pelvis, spine, spinal canal, spinal cord extremities). The method is being used on an increasing scale, yet it remains a method of choice and requires accurate, careful and thoroughly considered indications. (B.S.)
