Professional radiation exposure in X-ray diagnostics

On the basis of organ dose measurements in a phantom, and given certain, relatively pessimistic, marginal conditions - for instance, the local dose rate in the surroundings of the X-ray devices here discussed - the term occupationally exposed persons in X-ray diagnostics, as newly defined in the draft amendment to the X-Ray Ordinance, can be interpreted as follows: Where persons exercising their profession or persons in training have to stay within the controlled area of an X-ray device, their occupational exposure must be rated as corresponding to category A in cases where surgical X-ray devices, overtable X-ray units (for instance in urology), and special devices (for instance in angiography, neuroradiology, cardiology) are used; in all other cases category B exposure seems to be sufficient.
