Macroexamination of uranium alloys
Description
Two procedures for macroetching uranium-base alloys are described. The first procedure consists of electropolishing, followed by immersion etching in a HNO3--HAc solution. This procedure is ideal for large nonflat specimens. The second procedure is one of mechanical grinding followed by a vibratory polish-attack macroetch. This procedure is ideal for macropatterns that are difficult to develop. Photomacrographs of uranium alloy castings and forgings prepared in this manner are presented, as are the limitations of the procedures
