Description
The effect of oxygen and nitrogen content in protective helium atmosphere on the transfer of this elements to weld metal has been investigated for arc welding of niobium and Nb-W-Mo-Zr and Nb-Zr-C alloys systems. Interstitials content in the weld is determined by.internal friction method. It is found that the saturation of weld solid solution with oxygen and nitrogen occurs already at their 10-4% content in helium. In the process of welding unalloyed niobium absorbs oxygen more intensively while alloys absorb nitrogen more actively. An increased content of gases in weld metal can reduce the impact strength of niobium and its alloys
