Neutron Activation Analysis of Gold in Soil

Description
The only one stable isotope of gold is 197Au. It will transform to 198Au as radioisotope by neutron capture reaction. 198Au decays by emission of 0.96 MeV beta ray and 411.8 keV gamma ray energy with half-life 2.696 days. Geological samples consist of numerous elements, all of them can be interacted and changed to radioisotopes at the same time of gold. Studying the optimum conditions for analysis of gold by neutron activation has shown that the high neutron flux induce high sensitivity sample. The peak/background ratio of 411.8 keV gamma ray from 198Au reaches to the maximum at decay time of 5-6 day
