Involvement of oxygen and antioxidants in the radiolysis process of water induced by irradiation with high energy ions: numerical simulations for radiobiology
Description
After a survey about the oxygen effect and the antioxidant system of a cell, the simulation of the radiolysis of water is described, particularly the method used to insert a solute and thus study the effects of antioxidants and oxygen on the process of water radiolysis. The next chapter is then devoted to the study of the 'oxygen-in-the-track' hypothesis, which puts forward the creation of oxygen molecules in the LET (Linear Energy Transfer) trace of high radiation to explain the disappearance of the oxygen effect. Then, chapter 4 focuses on the toxicity of HO2/O2- free radicals that are generated in large quantities in the presence of oxygen. Finally, in chapter 5, the influence of glutathione, an antioxidant, on the radiolytic efficiency of water radiolysis in the presence of oxygen, is studied.
Abstract (French)
(auteur)Files
