Periphere p anti p production in the reaction π-p → p anti p n bei 18.8 and 9.8 GeV

Description

A total of 24,500 π-p → p anti p n events are measured in a spark chamber experiment at 18.8 and 9.8 GeV incident π- momentum. The energy dependence of the total cross section, the shape of d2sigma/dMdt, and the proton-antiproton decay angular distributions suggest that the production process is dominated by one-pion exchange. The experimental arrangement, data analysing, the absolute cross section, the p anti p mass spectrum, the differential cross section, the on-shell π+π- cross section, the p anti p decay angular distribution and differential cross section and the partial wave analysis are discussed in detail. Abstract (German)

In einem Funkenkammerexperiment bei 18,8 und 9,8 GeV Laborimpuls wurden insgesamt 24.500 Ereignisse der Reaktion π-p → p anti p n gemessen. Die Energieabhaengigkeit des totalen Wirkungsquerschnittes, der Verlauf des differentiellen Wirkungsquerschnittes d2sigma/dMdt und die Winkelverteilung des Proton-Antiprotonzerfalls legen nahe, dass beim Produktionsprozess der Ein-Pion-Austausch dominiert. Die experimentelle Anordnung, die Datenanalyse, der absolute Wirkungsquerschnitt, das p anti p Massenspektrum, der differentielle Wirkungsquerschnitt, der π+π- Wirkungsquerschnitt auf der Massenschale, die p anti p Zerfallswinkelverteilung und der entsprechende differentielle Wirkungsquerschnitt und die Partialwellenanalyse werden im Detail diskutiert.
