Description

This paper describes some of the aspects of Northeast Utilities' organization and situation which pose unique challenges in implementing Severe Accident Management (SAM). After having briefly presented the operated stations and the organization of the decision making framework, and described some organisational aspects, the author discusses the issue of the role of the Control Room during a severe accident, the knowledge and skills required for the Technical Support Center (TSC), the level of training required for the operations staff, and how the communication between the Control Room and the TSC can be strengthened
