Biological assessment and phytoremediation of radiation and radionuclides
Description
Due to the history of the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in 2011, the people located in neighboring Japan are great about fear and against about radioactive contamination. In this study, we were eager to develop direct decontamination technic for radioactive material using plants, and also to make an analysis about low-medium dose radiation affecting human. For this purpose, we selected and tested native Arabidopsis thaliana as a model plant. Through establishing the irradiation techniques for this model plant, we gained mutant pool to develop radiation-resistant plant. In addition, through investigating the genetic and physical changes in plant that was treated with high concentrations of Cs, we were eager to select candidate plant that have high level of radioactive Cs-decontamination efficiency. Also, in order to produces biological impact study strategies against low-medium dose radiation, we held seminars for building domestic researchers network, and we are currently producing biological impact study strategic roadmap and technical report against low-medium dose radiation. In addition, we completed gene expression data profiling analysis in neural stem cells (C17.2 cells) according to the radiation dose (0, 0.2, 0.5, 2Gy) using micro array technic, and as a result, radiation-responsive candidate genes in the neural stem cells were unearthed from the data analysis. These results make us comprehend biological effects against radiation more in depth. Finally, we expect that these results could be applied for the basic results to decrease radioactive contamination.
