Nuclear magnetic resonance imaging with cardiac synchronization in chronic thrombosis of main pulmonary arteries. A case review with CT scan imaging correlation

Description
Results of nuclear magnetic resonance exploration in a patient with chronic thrombosis of main pulmonary arteries are used to outline an elementary semiology in agreement with current documented data. Signs observed relate to the thrombosis and showing of flow due to associated pulmonary artery hypertension. Cardiac synchronization is essential: obtaining 2 echos by the spin-echo technique allows differentiation of circulatory slowing phenomena, which provoke increased strength of 2nd echo, from the thrombus itself. Correlations established with V/Q scintigraphy, angiography and CT scan findings in this case provided preliminary evaluation of use of this imaging technique in this affection
Abstract (French)
A propos d'une observation de thrombose chronique des gros troncs arteriels ayant comporte une exploration par Resonance Magnetique, les auteurs tracent une semiologie elementaire en accord avec les donnees actuellement recueillies dans la litterature. Les signes observes concernent la thrombose et le ralentissement du flux du a l'hypertension arterielle pulmonaire associee. La synchronisation cardiaque est indispensable; la realisation de 2 echos en technique spin echo permet de differencier les phenomenes de ralentissement circulatoire, dont les signaux s'accroissent sur le deuxieme echo, de la presence du thrombus proprement dit. Les correlations etablies dans cette observation avec la scintigraphie V/Q, l'angiographie et la TDM permettent aux auteurs une premiere evaluation de cette nouvelle methode d'imagerie dans ce type d'affectionAdditional details
