Abstract In this paper, e-folding times are determined for the fundamental adiabatic convective mode of 1 M0 red-giant models. It is found that these times are nearly constant, even at the evolution phase at which the star becomes dynamically unstable with respect to radial modes because of the effects of hydrogen and helium ionization. Furthermore, it is shown that at this phase the e-folding time for the convective modes is much shorter than that characteristic for the radial modes.
