Experimenta study of the ERL-M electrical-discharge plasma confinement system

  • 1. Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics, and Automation (Russian Federation)

Description

An experimental study is made of the xenon plasma variables in the ERL-M confinement device, constructed from a closed magnetic quadrupole operating in the electrical-discharge regime for different magnetic barrier strengths. Electrostatic probes are used to measure the electrical potential, density, and electron temperature. The ion energy distribution function is determined. The energy confinement time τE is estimated for various H. When the magnetic barrier strength is equal to 140 G the plasma parameters are found to be n = 1.1 · 1012 cm-3, Te = 50 eV [εi] = 90 eV, τE = 300 μs. 9 refs., 5 figs
