Ways of improving semiconductor detectors of nuclear radiation

Description

An advisability is discussed of using new physical principles for semiconductor spectrometry of nuclear radiations. The following physical mechanisms are considered - collision ionization, SHF power absorption by free current carriers as well as a phenomenon of negative electron affinity of the surface (defining an effective external emission). Designing of proportional multiplication detectors is reasonable but for very low energies. In this connection more promising is the signal amplification either by absorbing the SHF power with carriers or by multiplication of carriers in a semiconductor anode
