Structure of forest ecosystems and leaf area index of wood plants -results of monitoring over the years 1991-1994

Description

Monitored characteristics and their dynamics over the last four vegetation seasons reveal the following conclusions: 1) Changes of monitored parameters (e.g. the structure of tree and shrub layer, the leaf area index) are slow, drab and insignificant at the permanent monitoring representing a major part of forest ecosystems of the area affected by the Hydroelectric power structures Gabcikovo. Despite the absence of floods, the ground water level is at a sufficient height to contact rhisosphere of wood plants and the recorded changes are in accord with growth regularities. 2) An increase of the ground water level in the upper part of the monitored territory and a partial renaturation of hydropedological conditions led to an improvement of production-ecological parameters of the area. Changes of its structure are of positive tendency, the leaf area index is stabilised at high values and somewhere even increased (in 1994 being by 70-80% higher than in 1991). 3) Localities with a permanent decrease of the ground water level (band along the old river-bed of the Danube, a dry triangle among the old river-bed of the Danube, the inlet canal and the river arm supplied by the intake structure at Dobrohost and other places) were afflicted by negative changes, locally indicating destruction of tree and shrub layers, with the leaf area index significantly reduced by 20-30%. Abstract (Slovak)

Monitorovane charakteristiky a ich dynamika pocas poslednych styroch vegetacnych obdobi odhaluje nasledovne zavery: 1) Na trvale monitorovanych plochach, predstavujucich vacsiu cast lesnych ekosystemov uzemia ovplyvneneho objektami vodneho diela Gabcikovo, su zmeny monitorovanych parametrov (napr. struktura stromov, ktrovita etaz, index listovej plochy) pomale, jednotvarne a nevyznamne. Napriek absencii zaplav tu je hladina podzemnej vody dostatocne vysoka, aby nastal kontakt s rhizosferou drevin a zaznamenane zmeny su v sulade s rastovymi zakonitostami. 2) Zvysenie hladiny podzemnej vody v hornej casti monitorovaneho uzemia a ciastocna renaturacia hydropedologickych pomerov viedla k zlepseniu produkcno-ekologickych ukazovatelov. Zmeny v strukture uzemia maju pozitivny trend, index listovej plochy sa stabilizoval vo vysokych hodnotach a niekde sa i zvysil (v r. 1994 bol o 70-80% vyssi ako v r.1991). 3) Lokality s trvalym poklesom hladiny podzemnej vody (pas pozdlz stareho koryta Dunaja, suchy trojuholnik medzi starym korytom Dunaja, privodnym kanalom a ramenom rieky napajanym z odberneho objektu v Dobrohosti a ine miesta) boli postihnute negativnymi zmenami, miestami s naznakom destrukcie stromovitej i krovitej etaze, endex listovej plochy sa zredukoval o signifikantnych 20-30%.
