Microstructural explanation for the low swelling of ferritic steels

  • 1. AERE, Harwell, Oxfs, Engl

Description

Microstructure developed is analyzed in a 12Cr steel by fast reactor irradiation and compare it with that produced in pure iron under identical irradiation conditions. The evolution of the irradation-induced microstructure and the relative immunity to void swelling in the steel are explained in terms of an 'intrinsic' model based on an established mechanism of interstitial loop nucleation and growth in the bcc lattice
