Gamma irradiation of a binary solid mixture of hydrocarbons with cyclopentane in low quantity
Description
Radiolysis of organic glasses at low temperatures has been used widely for the study of intermediates appearing in radiation chemical processes. In this paper, we report esr measurements on the radical production in 2 methylpentane-2,2-dimethylbutane solid mixtures with cyclopentane as solute. The data presented indicate a selective formation of the cyclopentyl radicals in vitreous binary solutions of alkanes. It is clear that this selectivity in vitreous matrix cannot fulfil the structure requirements of the H atom abstraction theory
