Low-frequency automodulation of high-current electron beam
Description
One way of using high-current modulated electron beams (HCEB) is their application for collective ion acceleration. It is advantageous to have an electron beam modulated in frequency of the order of tens of MHz to capture low energy ions for injection into the acceleration mode. The results of experiments on shaping modulated HCEB propagating in vacuum in the longitudinal magnetic field are given. Modulation is carried out with the variable magnetic field generated by solenoid switched in a circuit of a feedback conductor. The electron beam with 0.3-1 kA current, 0.4-0.6 Mev energy and pulse duration at 0.6 ns half-height has been modulated in 20-80 MHz frequency for the chosen experimental geometry. The relative depth of beam current modulation has reached 75%
