Description

The results of the measurement of the neutron beam polarization (Pn) induced in passing of the thermal neutron beam through the KBr target are presented. The study is performed at the IR-8 reactor. The neutron flux at the set input consituted 3x109 Nxcm-2xc-1. The neutron beam from the reactor core passed through KBr targets located in solenoids through the analyzer of the neutron beam polarization (magnetized up to saturation iron) and recorded by the detector system. The measurements are performed by the integral compensation method. The polarization value Pn=(19.0±0.7)x10-6 is determined. The results of measurements of the transmission asymmetry equal to the (σ+-σ-)/(σ++σ-) ratio, where σ+, σ- - total cross sections for opposite helicity neutrons and σtot - total cross section for KBr. The dependence of the (σ+-σ-)/(σ++σ-) ratio on neutron mean energy is discussed
