Angular dependence of the TiK edge in TiO2

  • 1. Paris-11 Univ., 91 - Orsay (France)

Description

The angular dependence of the X-ray absorption spectrum of TiK-edge in TiO2 recorded in total electron yield mode is reported. Although the weak distortion of the coordination octahedron, the spectra exhibit a large contrast which allows to conclude on the excited state orbitals involved in the strong transitions. The energy splittings between the transitions, degenerated in perfect octahedral symmetry, are much more prononced than we could expect according a one electron ground state analysis. Specifically two new components in the group of pre-edge transitions have been found out. So now, there are five of them equalling the number of 3d orbitals
